The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) says it is working with the Zambia Police Service to find five people wanted in Zambia, who police believe are in Zimbabwe. Police have asked the public for information and warned people not to approach them.

What police said

In a statement dated Wednesday, 14 October, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the ZRP's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters was working closely with the Zambia Police Service.

"The Zimbabwe Republic Police is assisting with inquiries relating to five (5) fugitives who are wanted by the Zambia Police Service in connection with various serious offences committed separately in Zambia, including aggravated robbery, theft and cybercrime," the statement said.

"The individuals are believed to be in Zimbabwe, and the Police are appealing to members of the public for any information which may assist in establishing their whereabouts and facilitate appropriate lawful action in accordance with the applicable legal and police cooperation frameworks."

Who police named

According to the police statement, the five people wanted by Zambian police, and the offences police listed against each of them, are:

Emmanuel "Jay Jay" Banda: wanted in connection with aggravated robbery, attempted murder and escaping from lawful custody.

Kaizar Peter Zulu: wanted in connection with conversion of a motor vehicle, threatening violence and assault.

Enock Mwanza, Robert Ng'uni and Susan Chileshe: each wanted in connection with alleged cybercrime offences that police listed as unauthorised access to a computer system, unauthorised interference with a computer system, and "prohibition of cyber attack".

None of the five has been convicted of these offences. They are wanted for questioning and legal action in Zambia.

How to report information

Police have asked anyone with information on the whereabouts of the five to report to their nearest police station, according to the police appeal as reported by NewZimbabwe, The Maravi Post, iHarare and ZimDailyJournal.

Police warned members of the public not to approach or confront the suspects.

Cross-border cooperation

Nyathi said cooperation between police forces was needed so that suspects could not use borders to avoid the law. "Such police-to-police cooperation is essential in ensuring that criminals do not exploit national borders to evade justice, while at the same time upholding the rule of law and respecting the legal processes of the respective countries," he said, according to NewZimbabwe.
